Glucophage 1000 mg contains metformin, a first line oral medicine for type 2 diabetes in adults when lifestyle measures need support. It helps the body use insulin more effectively and lowers glucose production in the liver. Dispensed for people with a clear prescription and clinical follow up.
How it works
Take with meals exactly as prescribed, often once or twice daily depending on your regimen. Swallow whole with water. Do not change the dose yourself. Missed dose: take when remembered with food unless it is nearly time for the next. Never double up. Your clinician may check kidney function and vitamin B12 over time. Keep all diabetes review appointments.
Side effects
Stomach upset, nausea, or loose stools are common when starting. Taking with food and slow dose increases often help. Rare but serious: lactic acidosis risk rises with kidney problems, severe dehydration, or certain procedures. Stop and seek care for unexplained muscle pain, deep fatigue, or breathing distress. Avoid excess alcohol. Tell doctors you take metformin before surgery or contrast scans.
